Anne Goodwin writes beautifully, really getting under the skin of her characters and, for me, this is a sparkling five star read. Highly recommended!
Grace J Reviewer Lady

I loved the way the story puts readers in the shoes of the protagonist, and we get to live what happens through her own eyes: the fear, the trashed hopes, the moments of joy, the many disappointments, the companionship, the grief, the confusion … Highly recommended.  Olga Miret

Overall, a heart-breaking story of a young lady with hopes of freedom again one day. Jenny Lou’s Book Reviews

You don’t need to have read the first book to appreciate this one but I’m betting you’ll want to read it straightaway after you finish this! And if you’ve read the first book than you’ll be eager to read this one. Bookphace

It’s a wonderful book Veronika Jordan

It is beautifully written, and the author demonstrates skill in the portrayal of her characters. Matty, and those around her, leap off the page and are utterly believable. Left on the Shelf

5*s from me for this moving, yet positive, story of how society treated people  like Matilda who did not fit into the social norms of the time. EmmabBooks

Stolen Summers is a beautifully written story which made me both angry and very sad. Literary Flits

Anne Goodwin has a talent with the way she writes. She brings the characters to life, gives them soul. Honest Mam Reader

The book ends with taster chapters from the sequel which suggest it will provide that. I can’t wait to read it. Frank on RBRT

The story is beautifully written and the characters brought to life fully so you can’t help but be drawn to Matty and Doris in particular, while exploring a horrific time in the not too distant past. Between the Lines

well-structured, multi-layered storyline, which seamlessly blends fact with fiction, to give a wonderfully textured, rich in atmosphere, immersive work, with true visual depth and range. Fiction Books

The book is so well-written, and I thoroughly enjoyed it all the way through, even though it made me want to weep for Matilda and the other women like her.  Highly recommended. Terry Tyler Book Reviews

This book is beautifully written and can be read as a standalone although I can see many readers wanting to read on to see what happens next for Matilda. Georgia Rose Books

Told from Matilda’s point of view, this is a really well-written story, that deals with its subject matter sympathetically and unflinchingly.
Alison Williams

I admire this author’s writing style and her ability to draw the reader into the world of the characters [creating] an overriding atmosphere, so skilfully portrayed that it’s impossible not to feel the emotions of the protagonist and a sense of the place she inhabits. Judith Barrow
