Humbled, Theresa? Puhleeeassse!

How quickly time moves on in politics if I can go, in under three weeks, from hoping that someone will speak out for diversity and social justice to relief we’ve someone who doesn’t come across like an embarrassing uncle (or, in my case, nephew) to negotiate us out of the EU. When the country appears on the brink of Trumpification, I’m grateful for crumbs of sanity wherever they arise. So thank you, Theresa May, for enabling the speedy departure of the chump who gambled his own and his country’s future on a game of dice with his backbenchers, although I feel for the Campbell children having to move house with so little time to pack their toys. As for Andrea Leasdom’s own goal against childless women (of which I’ll have more to say at a later date), all she’s done is demonstrate she’s in politics, not for our collective futures, but for the sake of the genes that will live on in her offspring after her death.

But humbled to be tasked with leading the country, Theresa? Are you sure you’ve got that right? Language evolves, we all know that, but do you really want to model yourself on Humpty Dumpty and Uriah Heap? If you muddle words so much can we trust what else you have to say? When you voted Remain, did you perhaps think it was a synonym of Leave? Given that that’s what you’ve pledged to deliver, even though it’s what almost half of us voted against.

Or perhaps you feel you’ve been given a poisoned chalice in taking us Out against your better judgement, and a humbling humiliation it really is? Can’t feel so great being our second female prime minister, given the legacy of the first.

Not sure what else to say other than that it may well be the first and last time the EU flag appears on my blog. This time next week I’ll be miles away from politics on the Sugar and Snails first birthday blog tour, of which more very soon.
